Taking advantage of the Detroit Motor Show, Lexus has introduced its new large sedan, the Lexus LS 2017, which features a new, sharper and more modern design, in line with the latest models of the house, incorporating the latest available technology and for its luxurious interior. But most interesting of all is the new platform, which promises a much better behavior.
This huge 5.24-meter 1.9-meter-wide saloon will be on sale later this year, according to the company, with the LS 500 variant leaving behind the V8 engines and debuting a 3.5-liter V6 biturbo of 421 hp and 600 Nm, next to the new automatic gearbox of ten speeds (the same of the LC 500). Lexus also promises a future hybrid variant (with gasoline and electric engine) and could even get a fuel cell.
Longer and shorter (15 mm) than the outgoing model (and 3.5 centimeters extra between axles), the Lexus LS 2017 (2018 for Americans) looks more attractive than before, thanks to the design language of the models recent, but its true secret is under the body and it is the GA-L platform, specifically an elongated version of the one used by the LC coupé. Lexus claims that it is the most rigid platform used by Lexus to date.
This, along with a reduction of the center of gravity of this sedan and a better distribution of weight, means that the new LS has a much better dynamic behavior than its predecessor, despite its size and weight (90 kilos lighter than before , However). The 3.5-liter block V6 biturbo, meanwhile, allows this sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds.
In addition, the LS has steering in the rear axle and with the VDIM system, that allows to adjust to the driver parameters of the air suspension, the steering, the engine-change assembly, the brake system or the driving assistants. Also, the LS tire offer now features five different options, 19 or 20 inches.
As it could not be otherwise in a sedan of its class, the LS has a living room to the height, which incorporates decorative moldings of wood in three different finishes, high quality upholstery, central screen 12.3 inches, a Head Up Display that promises to be the largest on the market and assistance systems such as pedestrian detection Lexus Safety System +.
On the other hand, electric seats with 28 positions and heating, ventilation or massage function. All these functions (except the 28 adjustments) are also available in the seats of the rear bench. Of course, we also find the noise suppression system (through the audio system) and the Mark Levinson 3D Surround sound equipment is available with ceiling speakers, among many other things.
