Land Rover Discovery Towing 110 Ton Convoy

The Land Rover Discovery with Td6 engine has a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, or at least that's what it puts on paper in its datasheet. That is why seeing that he has been able to tow a convoy of 110 tons for 16 kilometers is praiseworthy. It has happened in Australia and this challenge of towing has many curiosities.

The towing capacity of these types of cars is one of the main features that are usually put to the test. That's why Land Rover Australia asked to close a stretch of the famous Outback to take this challenge to carbo.

Although the convoy or road trains have a maximum authorized length of 53.5 meters, Land Rover obtained the necessary authorization to perform this test on a section of road closed to traffic. The Land Rover Discovery Td6 was able to haul the 110-tonne-weight trailer and tractor unit, which alone weighs 12 tonnes, and did it for 16 miles reaching speeds of 44 km / h.

Logically the 600 Nm that deliver this engine have been key to be able to pull this beast of the road that has 158 wheels. Once again, and there are a few, it is shown that the current vehicles have a towing capacity much higher than those indicated in the datasheets.
