2018 Citroen C4 Cactus

The Citroën C4 Cactus hit the market in 2014 with an innovative design at the same time as it wanted to be a very rational car. The idea was very Citroën and created expectation. And the early years of marketing was a successful model, but having an identity so marked and at the same time contradictory, sales began to fall.
It was time for restyling to give it a new life. And the restyling is this time rather accused. The Citroën C4 Cactus 2018 leaves its crossover appearance and side airbumps to become a compact sedan, rival the Ford Focus, Seat Leon and Hyundai i30, to name three models of the crowded European C segment.
The Citroën C4 Cactus is a clearly anti-conformist model. And it's not just a question of design - it's those cars you like or hate - but because almost four years after its launch comes a profound change in its approach. Instead of opting for the classic restyling-upgrade, Citroën redirects the C4 Cactus to a more conformist market segment.

While stagnation in sales is one of the reasons for this change, the main cause is the Citroën C4 production cease in the spring of 2018 that would leave Citroën without a compact model. In addition, the newly introduced Citroën C3 Aircross - which is clearly an urban SUV - could detract from sales to the C4 Cactus in its current outgoing configuration.
Radical change of objective
Thus, the new C4 Cactus leaves the SUV aspect to become a compact. The famous Airbumps disappear almost completely - they remain in the part of the doors like purely of design and not protection element. The front changes completely, but it preserves the family air of the current Citroën.
The chrome calender that houses LED daytime running lights, the Citroën C3 bumper and the new headlamps have only one purpose: to give it a more massive appearance and justify its new positioning. In the rear, the larger rear lights and the new bumper with false air extractors fulfill the same function.
The customization in the new model includes nine body colors combined with four color packs (black, gray, white and red) that will be applied to specific areas of the car, such as the frame of the fog. By the way, it should be noted that there will be no possibility of a bicolour body, as it seems to be the new fashion. The roof will remain the same color as the rest of the body.
An interior that changes only in essentials
With so much investment allowed for the exterior design, the interior hardly receives touch-ups. Even so, the few elements that change make the difference. For example, the C4 Cactus 2018 has a central tunnel in the extension of the center console, with a large compartment in the central armrest.
On the other hand, safety equipment is also updated with, for example, the arrival of blind vehicle warning, access and keyless start and the assistant of inadvertent lane change.
Of course, the moons behind will continue to be compass-type. The investment necessary to include classic moons that descended on the doors would have forced to design new doors and to pass new crash tests of homologation. And it is unlikely that that investment would have recovered without making the car price too expensive. And for years Citroën has an aggressive pricing policy.
The new seats, which Citroën ensures are infinitely more comfortable than the current model, and a significantly improved soundproofing (acoustic insulation on the dashboard, floor, new door joints, etc.), according to the brand.
Premier Suspension and Engines
Citroën and the hydropneumatic suspension are inseparable. Logically, an updated C4 Cactus would be a disproportionate investment. Even so, Citroën has wanted to give the C4 Cactus 2018 a technical advantage: the shock absorbers with progressive hydraulic bumper.
These shock absorbers would offer a greater route to filter the imperfections at the same time as they would erase the rebound effect in the most irregular irregularities. The C4 Cactus is the first Citroën in Europe to equip this suspension hitherto reserved for the Citroën C5 Aircross of the Chinese market.

The Citroën C4 Cactus will arrive with two new engines to complete the current range. The PureTech 3-cylinder gasoline block of 82 and 110 hp (with particle filter for it, now) is maintained, but it is joined by a 130 hp version with 6-speed manual gearbox and particulate filter. On diesel, the 1.5 hp BlueHDI 120 will be the novelty, but the 1.6 hp BlueHDI is kept in the range.
The C4 Cactus 2018 will have to face the compact, but with its 4.16 m long will be the smallest in the category (for example the SEAT León is 4.28 meters long, while Renault Mégane and Ford Focus are 4 , 36 m) although thanks to a battle of 2.60 m compensates in habitability its reduced exterior size. In the end, it will all be a matter of price to know if the new C4 Cactus can make a dent in the C segment, that of cars for everyone.
