It is very likely that if you had to decide for a circuit toy you will start thinking about sporty, Caterham or Radical style or even race cars, but our friends from Drivetribe, the platform created by Clarkson, Hammond and May , have wanted to play in another league.
And Henry Catchpole and Jethro Bovingdon, two of today's most brilliant engine journalists, met at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, England, with two of the most spectacular racing beasts of recent times: the McLaren P1 GTR and the Aston Martin Vulcan. Now the question is, which one is the best?
Let's let this answer take you out of the video (no spoilers), but before there are a few data to point towards this battle. Both are based on a monocoque carbon, rear-wheel drive, production was extremely limited (there are only 24 Vulcan, for example) and both cost more than 2 million euros.
The P1 GTR puts on the table a hybrid propulsion system based on a 3.8-liter V8 biturbo with a total of 1,000 hp and a racing aerodynamics (with DRS), while the Vulcan, with its 7.0 liter V12 engine of 820 hp, also resort to advanced aerodynamics. In any case, both exceed 320 km / h and ... the battle is served!
