From Motor 1 we are given a reason to buy a Volkswagen diesel in the times that run without feeling bad. Do you remember the Volkswagen XL1? This futuristic two-seater made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013. It is a plug-in hybrid that was born as a prototype and from which they came to be manufactured 200 units.

This rare avis is for sale in AutoTrader for 99,999 pounds, which is equivalent to about 112,000 euros, almost the price that Volkswagen set in 2014 when it put on sale a limited series.

Only 16 kilometers of shooting

The XL1 was intended to be the most efficient plug-in hybrid of the brand, with a consumption of 0.9 liters per 100 km of gas oil and emissions not exceeding 21 g / km CO₂. It was a project that was developed under the direction of the chief engineer Holger Bock, by direct commission of Ferdinand Piëch. At the end of October 2011, Volkswagen announced that a limited number of units would be marketed in 2013.

In 2013 the XL1 debuts at the Geneva Motor Show; a year later, at the Paris Motor Show, there is a sporty variant in blue called Volkswagen XL Sport, which features a two-cylinder petrol engine and 200 hp. A couple of years later Volkswagen would explode in the face the biggest scandal in the automotive industry.

The one on sale at AutoTrader is made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer, has a 2-cylinder 800cc diesel plug-in hybrid engine and a seven-speed DSG gearbox. Its power is not much, true, but it is still capable of reaching 160 km / h of top speed and accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 12.7 seconds. And it has only been driven for 16 kilometers.

This plug-in hybrid measures 3.89 m long, 1.67 m wide and only 1.15 m high and the doors are opening in elitro. It weighs only 795 kg thanks to the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics in the body panels and other components such as the passenger compartment, of which 227 kg are due to the motors and the batteries.

Being plug-in, it allows to enjoy an autonomy in only electric mode of 50 kilometers. The exterior is coated with a futuristic looking white finish, while the cabin is a little less sober with red, white and gray fabric seats.

It also comes with air conditioning, satellite navigation, power steering, airbags and sports seats. Ah, the 1VWL number plate is not included; you will have to buy it separately (total, if you have already paid that astronomical figure, which are a few zeros).
