|2019 Lexus ES arrives in Europe this summer|
Last week we saw the first picture of the new Lexus ES 2019, and now the Japanese brand has definitely shown at the Beijing Motor Show this seventh generation of the saloon, which promises greater comfort, more dynamism (thanks to a new chassis), a more generous space, technology and, in general, a much rounder product.
Perhaps the most interesting of all is that, for the first time, the Lexus ES will be available in Europe, where Lexus has sold 75,000 units in 2017. The petrol versions will arrive from September 2018, while the hybrid variant or It will be 300h already in December.
This third model of the new generation of Lexus launches design and appearance, following the Lexus LC Coupé and LS saloon, and is based on the GA-K platform or Global Architecture K. It is also larger, with 6.5 centimeters in length extra (and 5 cm more battle), and 4.5 centimeters more in width, although the height has been lowered by 5 millimeters.
As far as aesthetics are concerned, the Lexus ES will have different proposals depending on the version. From the elegant variant with grille spindle grille of vertical slats, to the F-Sport (for the first time in the ES) that looks more aggressive details like a rear spoiler, 19-inch wheels designed similar to those of the LC Coupé or darkened grill, for example.
The rear lights are LED and the offer of tires for the conventional versions moves between 17 and 18 inches, with three different designs. For its part, the body can be chosen in 12 different colors, with two of them (Heat blue and F white) exclusive for the F-Sport finish.
Already in the passenger compartment, the design is also very much in line with the Lexus LC: instrument panel with central clock, 12.3-inch multimedia screen on the dashboard, Touch Remote Touch selector or selectors mounted on the sides of the "visor" of the instrument panel, for example. Lexus announces different color combinations in black, cream or brown tones, as well as wood, bamboo or metal moldings (F-Sport). A Mark Levinson PurePlay audio set from no less than 17 speakers is also available.
Gasoline and hybrid
The new platform, more rigid, front-wheel drive and with a multi-link rear axle, makes it easier for the ES to offer better performance at a dynamic level, although it also promises great comfort and high levels of refinement. At the moment we do not know what engines will be offered in Spain.
The F-Sport also benefits from adaptive dampers and a specific Sport + mode that brings out the best in the engine, transmission and suspension. The ES 350 F-Sport also adds a system that amplifies the sound of the engine (although it is not detailed whether it is through the audio equipment or not). The engines of the global range are the following:
EN 300h: the hybrid variant of the new Lexus ES to be offered in Europe combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and Atkinson cycle (brand-new all-new) with an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery located under the rear stool (and does not steal space from the trunk). The set develops 218 HP and standardizes an average consumption of 4.7 liters per hundred kilometers.
ES 250: also with a 2.5-liter VVT-i four-cylinder engine and aluminum block, in combination with an eight-ratio Direct Shift automatic transmission. At the moment a power figure has not been announced, but it promises a thermal efficiency of 38%.
ES 350: The most powerful of all is a 3.5-liter V6 with an output of 250 hp, also next to the automatic eight-speed Direct Shift gearbox.
As standard in Europe for all versions, the Lexus Safety System + includes all the driving aids available in the house, such as the Pre-Collision system with cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles detection, or adaptive headlamps with automatic high beam lights ( AHS).
