Launched in 2016, the fourth generation of the Toyota Prius has not been a successor to its predecessors. Sales have not accompanied the benchmark hybrid of the market and that is why the Japanese brand has decided to give a facelift with an eye mainly on its aesthetics. The information points to the 2019 Toyota Prius being shown at the end of 2018 to reach the market next year.

The Toyota Prius has been by definition a model that has tasted the honeys of success. In the case of Spain, being linked to the taxi sector from its second to its third generation, the first hybrid that was popularized in the market enjoyed very good sales numbers.

Gone are their numbers of other proposals such as the Yaris Hybrid (7,876 units) or the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (7,706 units). Crossing the Spanish borders, and excluding Japan, the numbers have not accompanied the new generation either: in the US, sales were 50% last year compared to those harvested in 2012, the most successful year of the compact.

Given its discreet sales it is not surprising that, three years after its arrival in the market, Toyota is already thinking about a renewal of the Prius. And it seems that his daring and criticized aesthetics will be the main factor to review. According to the Japanese web portal CarSensor, the restyling to which the Toyota Prius 2019 will be subjected will take much of the design of the Prime, the plug-in hybrid version, which reached the European market almost a year later, although not so in Spain.

As CarSensor reports, Toyota designers are planning a new line for the headlights in the Toyota Prius 2019, which would go from having three peaks to an elongated shape just like the Prime looks. With regard to the rear, the restyling for the Toyota Prius will also modify the headlights, moving from the much commented vertical position to one based on more horizontal lines.

The profile will surely remain unchanged, with those marks towards the front and the rear that cross the side, identical in both the plug-in hybrid variant and the conventional one.

Regarding the mechanics, no changes are expected in the new Toyota Prius: its electric propeller combined with another gasoline allows it to yield a total of 122 hp, in addition to reaching a top speed of 180 km / h and show a restrained consumption of 3 , 3 l / 100 km. Risky would be to launch the strategy of offering two different potentiations, as has the Auris in its third generation. We will have the answer in a few months.
