Porsche has cut sharply with diesel engines, so much so that today there is no Porsche powered by diesel. To compensate for this loss in a market where diesel still has a lot of weight, they are betting on models like the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid that they just announced, a plug-in hybrid of 462 HP that will reach the Spanish market later this month.
On the one hand, it has a 3.0 V6 petrol engine that develops 340 hp (seven horses more than its predecessor), which is complemented by an electric motor of 136 hp, 43% more powerful than the previous electric motor Cayenne E-Hybrid.
462 HP and batteries with 30% more capacity
If we add, the set offers 462 HP and what is perhaps more important in this case, 700 Nm that are available almost from idle. Therefore, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid 2018 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.0 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 253 km / h.
With the new batteries, which increase their capacity by 30% from 10.8 to 14.1 kWh, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is able to travel up to 44 kilometers in purely electric mode while reaching 135 km / h of speed moved only by the electric motor.
The batteries located under the trunk floor are liquid cooled and consist of eight modules of 13 lithium ion cells each.
The electric motor always helps to move the car when we go in the Sport or Sport Plus modes (the car incorporates the Sport Chrono Package as standard, so that these modes will always be available), while in the other modes efficiency is sought above the benefits.
To ensure that the performance improves with respect to the previous model, the electrohydraulic system has been abandoned and now the clutch is electromechanically operated, so that the electric motor fits better with the separating clutch.
Four-wheel drive with electronically controlled multi-plate clutch
The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid 2018 is logically traction to the four wheels, like the rest of the Cayenne range. Through the Porsche Traction Management (PTM), a multi-plate clutch is responsible for distributing the torque between both axes depending on the circumstances, and always ensuring that dynamic touch you expect when driving a Porsche
The tuning of chassis and suspensions has been done taking into account that its mechanical configuration is not the same as that of any other Cayenne, since this account among other things with the batteries in the back of the vehicle.
In this sense it stands out that the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is part of the standard equipment, so that you can count on several adaptive suspension modes to adapt it to your liking.
Battery charging times
According to Porsche, 7.8 hours are enough to have 100% charged the battery through a 230-volt, 10-amp socket. Also available as an option you can order a 7.2-kilowatt charger that in a 230-volt outlet with 32 amps, allows you to charge the battery in 2.3 hours
The entire charging process can be controlled and monitored remotely through the smartphone with the Porsche Connect application, which in turn will have a new functionality that will locate charging stations, transmit them to the browser and thus allow us to reach them when necessary.
In addition, Porsche goes further in its preparation for the arrival of Mission E, its first 100% electric model, and has announced that through the Porsche ID that each client will have, it will be able to access public charging stations from different suppliers without giving High previously and the electricity bill will be charged directly to you.
Absolute novelty in Porsche, the Head Up Display
Although it is a very common element in cars even of generalist ranges, Porsche had never integrated a Head Up Display (information projection on the windshield) in any of its models. Until now.
It will be the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid the first to incorporate it as an option, and everything seems to indicate that it will then be offered in other models of the Porsche range.
Price of the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid
The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, second hybrid model Cayenne model, is already on sale, deliveries will begin at the end of this month of May and its price is 93,309 euros.
