After a first advance in the form of teaser, the German brand has officially presented the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Concept in Wörthersee, which will be the prelude to the production model that will arrive at the end of the year. It is the road-approved variant of the TCR and is presented as the fastest Golf to date. Good business card.
We expected to see the final version, but for the moment the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Concept remains in prototype, although it is expected that the production variant does not differ much from this first approach that has been one of the main claims in this Wörthersee 2018.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Concept is one of the most powerful street GTI ever conceived, although surpassed by the GTI Clubsport S and 310 HP. However, despite its lower delivery, the last of the GTI exceeds this in maximum speed, 264 km / h, a figure that gives it the title of Golf GTI for the fastest road ever conceived.
290 HP, 264 km / h and options to be even more sporty
It should be noted that the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Concept limits as standard the maximum speed to 250 km / h, but the brand offers the option to eliminate it to unleash its full potential on the asphalt reaching those 264 km / h mentioned: 4 km / h more than Clubsport S.
The heart of the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Concept is the well-known 2.0 TSI propulsion that for the occasion rises up to 290 HP of power to a maximum of 6,800 rpm and with a torque of 370 Nm from the 1,600 laps. The bad news for the petroheads is that it will not be managed from a manual gearbox, but from the automatic double-clutch DSG 7-speed.
However, Volkswagen has thought of the most enthusiastic so that, optionally, they can include a sports chassis and adjustable adaptive damping that can be configured in three modes: normal, comfort or sport. On the other hand, the braking system is of improved performance compared to the conventional GTI, with the aim of tying in short the greatest power delivery.
In terms of aesthetics, the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Concept is differentiated from the rest by a redesigned bumper with more generous air intakes, new side skirts and the incorporation of a diffuser in the rear, already advanced by the teaser, which integrates Two generous escape exits located on each side. In addition, the name TCR can be read on the sides, above the skirts and next to the rear axle, and you can add optionally different visual accents on vinyl.
When entering the interior, seats in sports-cut fabric include a strip that stands out in red and combines with the seams in the same tone. In addition, details are added to the recurrent carbon fiber on the dashboard or the door panels and on the windowsill, in stainless steel, the TCR name is illuminated when the doors are opened.
The final version of the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR will hit the market at the end of the year, so it is to be expected that we will see it at the Paris Motor Show at the end of the summer.
